Bishop Nelson S. Bellamy Sr. was born January 7, 1948, in Longs, South Carolina, to the parents of Eva Mae and the late Amos K. Bellamy. He attended Chestnut Consolidated High School in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He worked for the Department of Treasury after completing high school. He was drafted in the United States Army in 1969 and sent to Vietnam where he served 11 months and 23 days. While in Vietnam, Pastor Bellamy served as a chaplain as he counselled with the wounded and dying. He completed six years of active military service. Pastor Bellamy preached his first sermon December 11, 1968, at Corner Stone Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

 

He attended San Francisco State University and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. He also attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and received a Master of Divinity Degree. Pastor Bellamy also attended Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, California. Pastor Bellamy received his Doctorate of Divinity in Religious Studies from Friends International Christian University, Merced, California.

Pastor Nelson S. Bellamy Sr. is the pastor and founder of the Koinonia International Church of Augusta, Georgia. He has been in ministry for forty-six years. He was consecrated to the office of Bishop on July 29, 2012.  

Bishop Bellamy currently serves as the First Administrative Assistant of the Covenant Covering Christian Fellowship of Churches, Inc.; Georgia Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction.

 

Bishop Bellamy has travelled extensively to Europe, Asia, and Africa, making stops in Jerusalem, the Sea of Galilee, Nazareth, Caesarea, Mount of Olives, Bethlehem, Jordon, Ammon, Cairo Egypt, Istanbul, Turkey, and Athens Greece to obtain a better understanding of the Bible as experienced the Eastern Culture. Bishop uses his experience as a tool to effectively teach the Word of God in the Western World.

 

Bishop Bellamy is married to Betty Wiggins Bellamy and is the step-father and grandfather to a son, daughter, and two grandchildren.
