Koinonia was organized by the Pastor Nelson S. Bellamy Senior, July of 2003, in his home with his sister Leona Mays, and the late Donnie Hammond. The first public worship service was held on July 30, 2003, at 2056 Mike Padgett Highway.  January 2004, Pastor Bellamy began holding services at the Holiday Inn, on Gordon Highway, Augusta, Georgia.  Pastor Bellamy began walking the streets of Augusta passing out flyers inviting the community to his church. New member slowly joined the ministry, but that did not stop the mission of the ministry. One year later the ministry moved to downtown Augusta and held services at May Park Recreation Center. Three months later, He was contacted by a local pastor who offered him a building equipped for service at 457 Broad Street, Augusta, Georgia.  Koinonia International church has been worshipping at this location for the past nine years. The building has been remodeled, expanded, and transformed into a house of worship for all people. Pastor Bellamy was consecrated to the office of Bishop in July of 2012 and is currently serving as The presiding Bishop of the South Eastern Region of the Covenant Covering Christian Fellowship of Churches and the First Administrative Assistant to his Prelate Bishop/Apostle Cecil Hale Jr., the founder of the Covenant Covering Christian Fellowship of Churches based in Santa Rosa, California.
